About Cees van Casteren MW

Cees van Casteren MW is a consultant, wine writer, and freelance journalist. Decided to start his own business in 2002 after an initial career in flavors & fragrances and oenological products at DSM. In his last position, he was globally responsible for oenological specialties like yeasts, enzymes, and bacteria and based in Servian, South of France.

 

Cees was briefly editor-in-chief of wine magazine Proefschrift in 2003 and served since 2004 as editor of Perswijn Supplements for several years. He had a weekly wine column in the regional newspaper De Gelderlander for over a decade. Is also a correspondent for Meininger’s Wine Business International. Won twice the Dutch wine tasting championships ‘Prix Pommery’ and received the Southcorp Writer Bursary in 2003. He became Ambassadeur du Champagne in 2008 and is Rioja Educator since 2018. Cees passed his Master of Wine studies in 2012 to become the second Dutch MW.

Currently, Cees teaches WSET classes at Wijnstudio and Winefields; is a consultant to several wine producers and importers, is a copywriter and journalist, and does presentations and lectures.

 

Since 2012, Cees is Chairman of the Verenigde Vinologen in the Netherlands, the leading trade association of wine professionals in Holland.

He traveled extensively to vineyards on five continents and has a passion for Italian cuisine. He has a daughter, Emma, who plays golf, like Cees.

Awards & Nominations:

Cees is a two-time Vinologist of the Year. In 2003 he was awarded the Southcorp Writer's Bursary. Cees became Ambassador du Champagne in the Netherlands in 2006.
